Gulfstream G650ER

This is a beautiful plane, and there are a lot of small details in every part of it, so modeling this aircraft from photos was painstaking, and problematic. I wanted to be accurate and have it look right, and the small amount of information I found online was helpful, but only took me so far. Fortunately, working in the Avionics industry enabled me to go on board one that was sitting on a tarmac at an airshow. The details I was missing could be made up for by taking alot of closeup photos with my phone. Coupled with brochures and handouts from Gulfstream, I was able to put together a pretty accurate product. The end result I think, came out rather nice.

The Process

This 3D illustration was part of an on-going VVIP project for Panasonic. The intent was to show connectivity and entertainment capabilities inside a business jet. I chose the Gulfstream G650 for it's endless capabilities and it's appeal in the business jet market. I built the model, both interior and exterior and wanted to use natural light in my renders. Getting the camera angles and the lighting just right, with sunset coming through the windows, involved many renderings from multiple angles and locations. Turning off some cabin lights, and increasing brilliance of others. I wanted the final renders to reflect realism - to closely resemble actual photographs of the Gulfstream cabin.

I went through several iterations of the seat design. Some had more stitching, and multiple lines and more detailed than the others. Ultimately, I finished with a cleaner, more modern style chair, which not only reflected Gulfstreams choices in cabin design, but it also was less problematic in creating.
